  1. Do the nationals of my country need a visa to enter Benin?

This is the list of countries which are exempted from Benin entry visa requirement.

– Apart from Benin, nationals of fourteen (14) other Member States of the Economic Community of West Africa States (ECOWAS), including eight (8) Member States of the West Africa Economic and Monetary Union (WAEMU), can enter and move freely without a visa for a period of ninety (90) days, in the Community or the Union (Protocol A / P / 1/5/79 on free movement of persons, right of residence and establishment of ECOWAS, May 1979).

These countries include Burkina Faso, Cape Verde, Côte d’Ivoire, The Gambia, Ghana, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Liberia, Mali, Niger, Nigeria, Senegal, Sierra Leone and Togo.

– Citizens of member countries of the Community of Sahel-Saharan States (CEN-SAD) also benefit from the current system of visa exemption within the Community for holders of diplomatic and service passports, as well as for the Special Envoys holding official documents.

  1. Whom the Benin Embassy in Copenhagen can issue a visa to?

The Embassy of Benin in Copenhagen or one of the Consulates in one of the countries under its jurisdiction can issue a visa to any person in possession of a passport or equivalent travel document from the local authorities of the countries under its jurisdiction, i.e. Denmark, Sweden, Finland, Iceland, Norway, Estonia, Iceland, Latvia and Lithuania.

However, holders of passports from other countries than those of the jurisdiction of the Embassy can also obtain a visa, provided they prove that they are resident in one of the abovementioned countries. The residence permit or any other equivalent authentic document can be accepted.

– Diplomatic visas;

– Service and courtesy visas;

– Ordinary and tourist visas.

  1. Does my child, a minor need a visa for the trip to Benin with me?

Anyone wishing to travel to Benin and whose country is not on the list of countries exempted from entry visa to Benin is required to obtain a visa, regardless of age.

  1. What should be the validity of my passport before the application for issuance of visa to Benin?

The passport should be valid for at least three (3) months for a visa application.

  1. In case of dual nationality including that of Benin, may I go to Benin without a visa?

In case of dual nationality, you can use your Beninese passport to go to Benin.

  1. What are the options offered by the Embassy of Benin in Copenhagen to its compatriots who wish to travel to Benin, but whose passports have expired?

If need be, the Embassy of Benin in Copenhagen issues to Benin nationals with no travel documents or whose passports have expired, a pass allowing them to travel to Benin in order to apply for a new passport.
